Lakota Ghost Dance

In the Honors section of the Worlds of Dance class, I learned about various forms of dance from all around the globe. As an assignment, I wrote a research paper on the Lakota Ghost Dance, a dance cherished among the Lakota people that was a celebration of their culture and a protest to the mistreatment they endured leading up to the horrendous Wounded Knee massacre. My research explores how this tragedy occurred due to misunderstood cultural conflicts among the Lakota people and the U.S. government. I developed and submitted  an abstract within my discipline to the Undergraduate Research Symposium and waited to see if my proposal would be granted approval. My abstract was accepted and thus I presented my research at the 2016 symposium, and disseminated my results. Additionally, I achieved effective information literacy  in how I critically, efficiently, and effectively accessed information from various sources and chose particular information that would best represent my thesis. The completion of this research gave me a new knowledge and understanding of how the Lakota Ghost Dance was e obliterated unjustly and how this destruction could have been prevented with an increased amount of communication and cultural understanding.
