HONR 401: Exploring Personal Leadership through Social Change Essay

This is an essay I wrote  as a final reflective paper for the Honors Seminar class, Exploring Personal Leadership through Social Change. For this particular essay, I wrote about my overall experiences with the class, as well as how my time volunteering at Echo food shelf personally affected me, as well as my developing skills as a leader of social change. This class made me realize that my leadership values extend to service and that my leadership model closely resembles the servant leadership model, in how I value in my leadership experiences of putting  people and good of others first and foremost. As a budding activist, I hope to continue to use my leadership skills for social causes. My experience working at Echo Food Shelf, a local service that fights food insecurity allowed me critique what leadership model would best work in organizations that provide social services. I was able to see the servant leadership model in action at Echo and how myself and other volunteers base our service  based on the leadership model set by Echo as an organization. Additionally, I was able to practice working with other volunteers and their abilities to work toward the common goal of serving clients first. These experiences in action moved me to understand and witness the teams and values elements of successful social change leadership.
